WHAT HAVE YOU OVERLOOKED?

“We All Need Fun”
Location: Pondok Aren, Bintaro, South Jakarta
Day/Time: Sunday, 25 January 2009/ 20.00- 21.00

I realize how important it is for everyone to have fun. With the downturn of the economy,
ordinary people are the ones who are most affected first. They have to work harder just in order to stand still and survive the challenging environment. On a late Sunday evening, I decided to attend a local traveling carnival to accommodate the “ordinary class”. People from the surrounding neighborhoods attended this special occasion that consisted various stalls and amusements rides (Ferris wheels and kiddy rides). I brought my camera and took shots like wildfire, taking interesting views whenever possible. I have never attended such as an occasion before. I have really overlooked that fun is important for all of us, whether we are rich or poor, short or tall, black or white, we just need to have time for fun. I went out of my “comfort zone” and discover what is out there. I saw that these people were not in the best position economically and struggle everyday to survive.Yet they have time to enjoy themselves with their family, possibly not knowing on how to make money the next day. I am now more grateful to be where I am and will always find FUN in good times as well as tough times.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
I was born in Jakarta, Indonesia and grew up in the suburbs called Bintaro located in South of Jakarta, away from the crowd and the 24/7 traffic jams. Living in the suburbs, I find most of my comfort, where my home and my school are located. Jakarta, being the capital and the largest city has a population of 8,489,910 people. I find most of my inspirations in Jakarta Old Town (Kota Tua Jakarta) also known as Old Batavia (Oud Batavia). It is a special region that spans 1.3 square kilometers of both North and West Jakarta. It was once considered as a center of commerce for the whole continent due to its strategic location and fertile resources in the 16th century. Today, the former Town Hall of Batavia serves as Jakarta Historical Museum (Museum Fatahillah). I have drawn the museum to represent my town Jakarta and its historical site.

WHAT ARE YOUR EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES? WHERE DO YOU GO?
My life basically revolves around school and I find my true passions in arts and sports. My day-to-day activities are usually going to school from 7.30 am until 3 pm, for 5 days a week. I also have an extracurricular “Girls Soccer” after school twice a week, which involves my friends from my year level and a bunch of other girls from different year levels. The team has become a family rather than girls gathered together to play soccer. Apart from my hectic life during the weekdays, I like to spend most of my spare time riding my horse, drawing or painting, taking amateur photographs and hang around with family and friends. I also like playing in the computer, where I mostly browse on the internet and upload most of my artworks in Deviantart
